Rheumatology

Cork University Hospital’s Rheumatology Department serves the supra regional area of Co. Cork, Waterford, Limerick, Kilkenny, Tipperary, and Clare. It is a regional centre for secondary and tertiary care with a catchment population of 550,000. Referrals are received from GP’s, Hospital consultants and other specialist nursing services.

Rheumatology is the medical speciality caring for patients with musculoskeletal disease. Rheumatology services are essentially ambulatory and out-patient based with small numbers of beds required for acute rheumatic diseases and for patients requiring intensive periods of rehabilitation. The rheumatology department is led by 3 Consultant Rheumatologists with a commitment to general internal medicine.
