Nurse Practice Development Unit (NPDU)
NPDU is responsible for providing quality evidence based clinical placements and internship placements aligned with the Nurse and Midwifery Board of Ireland Requirements and Standards 2023. Our strong academic partnerships help ensure that academic programmes are grounded in clinical reality and that our clinical practitioners remain guided by developments in academia and research. NPDU recognise the need to continually improve the standards of healthcare and the clinical learning environment in order to promote high quality, safe care to patients and support students and staff to achieve their potential. Practice Development projects encompass HIQA standards, Documentation development, Medication management, Evidence Based Care Policies supporting young adult care, adult, older person care and care of children. NPDU support improvements in practice through data monitoring and working collaboratively with other disciplines to deliver a hospital wide calendar of quality improvement drives. Research is promoted through facilitation of national and international conferences annually, including General Nursing, Child and Family Nursing and ANP/CNS conference. Lunch and Learn presents opportunity to share the latest research and developments in clinical practice. Lunch & Learn sessions are interdisciplinary - encouraging nurses, doctors, clinical therapists and other healthcare professionals to share learning together and use this to inform changes in clinical practice. The Magnet4Europe Education Display Information Area (MEDIA) located on the Main Concourse displays research and quality improvement projects, which are rotated on a biannual cycle. We are extremely proud of the excellent work and collaboration with other disciplines in CUH to advance patient outcomes.
