Cork University Hospital is the largest HSE hospital in Ireland, and the only Model 4 (Academic Teaching) Hospital with all medical and surgical specialities, co-located on one campus with Adults, Paediatrics, Maternity, Mental Health & Dental Services. To find out more, click here.

The foundation stone was laid by the Taoiseach on the 27th January 1973 on a green field site.

The hospital opened with almost the same number of beds as we have to-day, with the transfer of acute services from St Finbarr’s Hospital, on the 28th of August 1978.

It was originally known as the Regional Hospital.

The majority of the core hospital remains to this day, with a number of additions;

Maternity

  • A new Maternity hospital opened on the CUH Wilton Hospital Campus in 2007, amalgamating services form 3 previous locations serving Cork.

CRC

  • A new Cardiac and Renal Centre opened on the CUH Wilton Hospital Campus in 2010.

Mental-Health

  • A new Mental Health Unit opened on the CUH Wilton Hospital Campus in 2015.

Glandore

  • A new Cancer Centre (Radiotherapy) opened on the CUH Wilton Hospital Campus in 2017.
