Cork University Hospital Group is committed to ensuring Cork University Hospital becomes a leading sustainable low carbon organisation, delivering sustainable healthcare into the future.  We are committed to continuing the progress of the Sustainable Healthcare Change programme at Cork University Hospital which has resulted in the renewal of the prestigious Green Flag award in 2018.

The Green Campus Programme reflects a multi-faceted approach to addressing sustainability issues, while endeavouring to create a healthier, greener and safer environment for staff, patients and service users. This approach is focussed on addressing the environmental impacts of waste generation, energy and water consumption, over reliance on unsustainable transport use, as well as addressing the overall increase in the carbon footprint created.

We are committed to energy management and continual improvement in energy efficiency in accordance with the HSE NHSO towards a Sustainable Health Services document (2013), Public Sector Programme and by adopting the Sustainable Energy Authority of Irelands (SEAI) Energy Mapping process and best practice guidance.

Cork University Hospital Group is committed to making energy savings while also ensuring it fulfils its commitment as a public sector organisation to meeting the national Public Sector Target of 30% energy efficiency savings by 2030.

Cork University Hospital Group recognizes that energy consumption can have detrimental impacts on the environment. The Group is dedicated to confronting these challenges by embracing and promoting sustainable environmental opportunities through translating best practice into action across the hospital campus.

By reducing carbon emissions, CUH campus plays an important role in tackling the adverse impacts of climate change as well as becoming a more sustainable healthcare facility.

  • Becoming a leading low carbon campus delivering Sustainable Healthcare into the future
  • Ensuring the necessary structures and resources are in place to continue the Sustainable Healthcare Change programme at Cork University Hospital
  • Implement the Sustainability Strategy 2018-2021 to progress the Green Campus agenda
