Renal Dietetic Service

Diet is a very important part of your treatment from before you start dialysis until following a kidney transplant. The dietician service at CUH and KGH is there to assess your needs and to provide you with dietary advice, information and help on what diet is right for you.

Our Service

At present we offer a service to all patients attending the Department of Renal Medicine, including patients on haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, patients who have chronic kidney disease but are not yet on dialysis, patients who have chronic kidney disease but are not yet on dialysis, patients with a kidney transplant, and patients with nephrotic syndrome or kidney stones.

We also assist patients admitted to the hospital as an inpatient.

How to access the Service

Referral to the renal dietician is made by the medical team or via the clinical nurse specialists.

Haemodialysis

People attending haemodialysis between the hours of 8am - 5pm are usually seen by the renal dietician during their haemodialysis session.

People who attend haemodialysis outside of these hours may be reviewed by phone or an outpatient appointment can be arranged.

Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis patients are reviewed by the dietician either by phone or when attending the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit.

Out Patient Services

Patients with chronic kidney diseases with a kidney transplant and patients with nephrotic syndrome or kidney stones are a outpatients.

The Renal Dietetic Clinic is located on the main outpatient corridor across from the Chest Pain Clinic.
