Nephrology Consultation Service

The Department of Renal Medicine at CUH provides a 24/7 Consultant-delivered consultation service to all hospitals and GP’s within Cork and Kerry. Between 750 and 850 consultations p.a. are requested, usually for patients with a high level of acuity.

We are often required to transfer patients to CUH so that they can receive the specialist renal care they need. We also provide a comprehensive acute kidney injury service to our Critical Care Units where patients who are acutely ill are susceptible to sudden kidney failure. As a consequence of this we operate a very close and overlapping clinical care relationship with the ICU in CUH.
