Kidney Transplantation Clinic

This clinic is for patients who have received a kidney transplant. All kidney transplants in Ireland are performed in the National Renal Transplant Centre at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. Following your discharge after receiving a kidney transplant follow up care will occur at out Kidney Transplant Clinic either in CUH or at our satellite clinic at Kerry General Hospital.

In the first few weeks after transplant patients are reviewed very closely, approximately twice a week, to ensure they are on the right dose of medication to help prevent complications such as rejection and infection. Once kidney function has stabilised they are reviewed every three months by our multidisciplinary team. These visits focus on general well being, blood pressure, weight and urine. Regular blood tests are important to measure kidney function, levels of immunosuppressive drugs, blood counts and bone chemistry. All medicines need to be regularly reviewed.

Once a year, there is an ‘Annual Review’ appointment to provide a detailed overview of progress.
