Ms. Christine Sheehan Cleft Co-ordinator Christine Sheehan joined the Speech & Language Therapy Department at Cork University Hospital in May 1999 as a clerical officer. In 2004 Christine was appointed as Administrate Officer. She worked closely with the Speech & Language Therapy Manager in administering and organising the one stop model provided for patients in Munster with Cleft Lip & Palate (CLP). In 2016, Christine took over the role as Cleft Lip & Palate Coordinator. She continues to coordinate this service, ensuring that service excellence is maintained for Parents/Patients and the CLP Combined Team members. |  |
Ms. Claire Mansfield Senior Speech and Language Therapist Claire Mansfield is a Senior Speech and Language Therapist with a specific in interest in Cleft Lip and Palate and Velopharyngeal Dysfunction (VPD). She has worked with acute and specialist services in Cork University Hospital for 10 years. She provides a service from antenatal diagnosis, through the neonatal period to adulthood to support feeding and communication needs. She aims to support and empower clients and their families to maximise development and guide appropriate care plans. She liaises with Speech and Language Therapists in Community Care with regard to intervention planning. She is involved in a specialist second opinion resonance clinic with Mr. Eoin O'Broin, Consultant Plastic Surgeon for the management of cleft and non-cleft velopharyngeal dysfunction. She enjoys the close and dynamic interdisciplinary working with other Cleft Lip and Palate team members. | |
Ms. Sally O'Toole Speech and Language Therapist Sally qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) in 2015 from UCC. Sally has experience working within acute hospital settings for both adult and paediatric populations. Sally is based in Cork University Hospital. Sally has a specific interest working with patients and their families in the management of cleft lip and/or palate. Sally works as a member of the cleft lip and palate multidisciplinary team. She works closely with the Consultant Plastic Surgeon and family from the time of diagnosis to establish an individualised care plan. Sally is also involved in a specialist resonance clinic, which involves the assessment of velopharyngeal dysfunction (VPD) in patients with/without a history of cleft palate. Sally is involved in the following specialist clinics: antenatal counselling, feeding eating drinking and swallowing (FEDS), resonance, videofluoroscopy and nasendoscopy clinics. Sally also maintains close links with community SLT colleagues to ensure routine monitoring and follow-up of patients within their local area. |  |
Mr. Eoin O'Broin Cleft Surgeon Eoin Ó Broin graduated in medicine from University College Dublin in 1990 and began his basic surgical training on the Dublin Surgical rotation scheme in 1992. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1994. In 1999, he passed the Plastic Surgery fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons – FRCSI(Plast). In 2000, he did a cosmetic surgical fellowship at the Stamford Hospital in London followed by a 1-year clinical fellowship in St James Hospital in Leeds. The fellowship in Leeds involved training in major reconstruction in particular Microsurgical Reconstruction and cleft lip and palate surgery. This was followed up by a further fellowship in the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia and in the Australian craniofacial centre, which involved further training in major reconstruction and cleft and craniofacial surgery. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international meetings in Ireland, in the UK and in the United States. He attained the additional qualification of Master of Medical Science(MMedSc) at the University College Dublin. He also attained an MD from Trinity College of Dublin. This MD thesis involved the use of a 3 Dimensional scanning system and computer analysis in cleft lip and palate patients. He did additional training in cleft lip and palate surgery in Nottingham City Hospital and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. He is now a consultant plastic surgeon working in the Cork University Hospital specialising in cleft lip and palate surgery. |  |
Mr. Peter O'Sullivan Consultant Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) Surgeon Mr. Peter O’Sullivan, Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist Specialist in Ear Nose & Throat Surgery. Peter returned to Cork from Princess Margaret Children’s Hospital, Perth, Western Australia in 2003 where he was part of a very extensive Cleft Lip & Palate Service. Since his return in 2003 he is actively involved in the Cleft Lip & Palate service at Cork University Hospital specialising in infant/child hearing. He is based at South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital with clinics also at Cork University Hospital to accommodate the Cleft Lip & Palate outpatient monthly clinics. |  |
Mr. David Hegarty Orthodontist David Hegarty qualified as a dentist from UCC in 1990. He went to England and started off as a house officer in oral surgery, and completed his Consultant Orthodontist in 1999. He has worked in the HSE since then, and is currently based in Cork at St Finbarrs Hospital. He enjoys the team ethic with the cleft lip and palate team, and the challenge this complexity of work brings. |  |
Ms. Fiona Graham Paediatric Dentist Fiona qualified in Medicine (1986) and Dentistry (1991) in U.C.C. She also holds a Diploma in Child Health from RCSI and a Fellowship in Dentistry from RCSEd. She has lectured and worked extensively with a widely diverse group of patients with special needs in both hospital and community settings. She is currently based in the Dental Clinic, St. Finbarr’s Hospital, Cork. |  |
