The Department of Anaesthesia at CUH, incorporating Intensive Care and Pain Medicine also provides support for patients with Malignant Hyperthermia (MH) and their families, and for clinicians caring for a patient with MH.

Dr. Peter Lee, Consultant Anaesthetist, is the lead in this area. 

We offer the following supports; 

  • The MH-relevant records of patients are maintained by the CUH Department of Anaesthesia. These include results of previous muscle biopsy and in vitro contracture testing and genetic testing. 
  • Advice to patients and their families with a suspected history of MH 
  • Advice to clinicians dealing with patients with a suspected history of MH 
  • Onward referral of patients for muscle biopsy and in vitro contracture testing or genetic testing, as appropriate.
