Surgical Training Course 02 February 2018
Surgical Training Course
The Department of Surgery hosted a surgical training course in Cork last November. The two day course was designed to support the training of our core surgical trainees. It is the only such course in Ireland, and one of the very few in Europe, that is supported by the use of fresh frozen cadavers. We can confidently say that our junior trainees are amongst the very few in the world, if not the only, to have been provided with this type of training at this stage of their careers.
All members of the newly extended Department of Surgery supported the development and execution of this course. It is intended that this course will be repeated in late spring and further plans are being developed to offer it nationally.
Although without doubt there have been many challenges over the year and a considerable amount of work put in by both clinicians and management to improving CUH, it is really incredibly encouraging to see our hospital at the very cutting edge of medical training internationally.
