Children First Awareness Week14 September 2017
All Staff members in the South/ South West group of hospitals are fully committed to ensuring that all of our children and young people are cared for in a safe, secure and caring environment. We have an obligation to identify children at risk and respond appropriately. This includes the children of adult patients whose presentation may give rise to concern.
While child protection is everyone’s responsibility some staff will have additional legal obligations under the Children First Act (2015), when this is fully commenced at the end of 2017. This group of people will be called Mandated Persons.
Here in CUH we have an obligation to report concerns about the welfare of a child. In a bid to assist us as employees we must all complete “An Introduction to Children First” e-learning module found on hseland.ie to help us to understand the process of reporting and to remind us of what we should be looking for.
The week of 18th of September, 2017 has been designated by the SSWHG Children First Implementation Committee as our Children First Awareness Week. There will be stands in each hospital, various presentations to all groups working in your hospital as well as an opportunity to look at the e-learning module first hand.
Please support us in our bid to keep children safe.
